iskandarX Society Review - Strategies You MUST Know if You Ever Want to Stand a Chance of Getting a Flat Stomach with 6-Pack Abs


Below is an interview that I did with world-famous trainer and Men's Health Magazine Training Advisor, Craig Ballantyne as he grilled me on the top secrets for fat loss and six pack abs. Check it out...






CB: Mike, give us a brief background about yourself


MG: Sure Craig. Well, I'm currently a Certified Nutrition Specialist and a Certified Personal Trainer. I've been dedicated to improving my knowledge of fitness, both training techniques and nutrition aspects, for over 15 years now, and I never stop trying to learn more each and every day. I've also been a contributing writer for Muscle & Fitness Hers Magazine, and I'm the author of the popular internationally-selling book, "The Truth about Six Pack Abs" which has had hundreds of thousands of readers in over 150 countries currently.


I just love helping people with this area of their lives, as not only does it improve their outward appearance and confidence, but more importantly, improves how they feel and their internal health, helping them to live longer and healthier lives. It's something I'm very passionate about.


CB: Okay, so where does the average man or woman go wrong when it comes to training abs?


MG: Ok, most people are probably going to be surprised with this answer. In their quest for 'six pack abs', the biggest mistake I see people making is wasting WAY too much of their time training their abs directly... pumping away with all kinds of different abs-specific exercises.


I'm sure you know what I'm referring to. The person is trying so hard to get those abs to show, that they're spending almost all of their time in the gym with hundreds of reps of various crunches, leg raises, twisting exercises, etc. Meanwhile, all of that wasted time directly training the abs could have been better spent on a properly designed full body workout program that would elicit a much better metabolic response and increase the fat-burning hormone levels in their body as well.


After all, losing the stomach fat that is covering the abs is the MOST important aspect for most people to finally be able to make their abs visible. Unfortunately, pumping away with hundreds of crunches and leg raises does NOT cause much of a metabolic or fat burning hormonal response. This is the main focus of my Truth about Six Pack Abs book... full body training programs and proper nutrition to strip off that stubborn belly fat and reveal the six pack that's hiding underneath!


Of course it wouldn't be an abs book if I didn't focus on ab development too, but I make sure firstly that the most important concepts for lasting body fat reduction are understood.


CB: Do you see any gender differences in mistakes they make? And more importantly, do you see any gender differences in the response to various types of ab training?


MG: To be honest, I don't really see any need for men or women to train differently. Bottom line... the best exercises are the best exercises regardless of gender.


However, in regards to mistakes I see between genders... Yes, I tend to see women more often are deathly afraid to use weight training with anything but really light weights. That is a shame, because THE most effective way to gain control over your body fat for life, is to maximize your lean muscle that your body carries, as well as working that muscle hard through intense resistance exercise regularly.


It's important for women to realize that regular strength training using heavier resistance will NOT "bulk them up" (as long as caloric intake is controlled), but rather is one of the key secrets for losing body fat and staying lean year-round. As a matter of fact, some of the leanest females that I've trained over the years are the ones that aren't afraid to work hard with the weights.


I also notice that most women (and a lot of guys too) spend way too much time with slow cardio exercise. This is simply not necessary, and the way I combine high intensity resistance training into full body routines provides enough of a "cardio" workout in itself usually. We'll get back to this in a minute though.


CB: What about ol' school sit-ups? Do you use these? Are they good, bad, or does it "depend"?


MG: Sit-ups are a controversial topic. I don't think they're good or bad per se, but rather "in between". I didn't include them in my program. I simply don't feel they are necessary, and I think there are much more effective abs exercises to focus on. Personally, I almost never do sit-ups except occasionally for a little variety every now and then.


CB: Give us a weekly sample ab training program. How many days per week? What are a couple of the best exercises you'd pick? How many sets? Reps? Rest?


MG: Well, first I'd like to point out that the full body movements that make up the majority of my programs indirectly work the abs and the entire "core" area to a fairly decent extent. However, I do include abs-specific exercises into the routines generally about twice per week. The "abs-specific" portion of the workouts generally only take about 5 minutes at most with very little rest between exercises.


Once people are past the beginning phase of gaining some initial ab strength, I try to get them away from the exercises that are too easy, where someone can do 50 or 100 reps, as is frequently common with standard crunches. Instead, I like to focus on higher resistance exercises that actually stimulate the muscle fibers to a much greater degree. One example of a higher resistance abs exercise is hanging leg raises with a proper "pelvic curl up".


It's funny but usually someone that has been wasting so much time with hundreds of reps of crunches can usually only do a few solid reps when they first attempt some of these higher resistance exercises. We also make sure not to neglect some rotational movements, as well as some work for the deeper muscles like the transversus abdominis.


CB: What do you use for burning fat, intervals or slow cardio? Or both? Any gender differences here? Or differences between fitness levels (beginner vs. advanced)?


MG: In most cases, my answer is definitely intervals... or as I like to call it "variable intensity training". In general, I think slow steady pace cardio is a waste of time, especially if the goal is lasting fat loss.


I think people need to get away from this thinking about "fat burning zones" and calories burned during the actual workout, and look at the bigger picture of what you're doing in your workout to stimulate the greatest metabolic response in your body... and the best metabolic and hormonal response is achieved through variable intensity training and strength training, not slow steady-pace cardio.


Now I will say that if someone is really deconditioned and can't handle higher intensity exercise routines just yet, this still doesn't mean that they can't simply use lower intensity routines, but still use it in a "variable intensity" fashion, by alternating between higher and lower exertion levels throughout the workout.


CB: And finally Mike, 1 or 2 of your top secret nutrition tips for carving out those abs. Open your vault of info!


MG: Well Craig, I think you'd agree that there has never been a more confusing time regarding proper nutrition for consumers. Every so called "expert" out there seems to disagree and contradict each other on what's the best way to eat for fat loss and overall good health.


One of the most important messages I try to teach my readers in this world of heavy confusion is that your diet doesn't need to conform to any of the fad diets... you don't need to go "low carb" or "low fat", or high or low anything for that matter to be successful in losing enough body fat to get lean enough to be able to see your abs. I like to try to simplify things for my readers. I think that balance is the key to success along with eating a diet that is made up of nutrient dense foods in their natural state (as unprocessed as possible).


In general, it is the heavy processing of foods that makes it wreak havoc inside our bodies. Most foods in their natural unprocessed state are inherently good for us. Of course there are always exceptions... a salad of poison ivy leaves is "natural and unprocessed" but certainly would not be good for us!


I'll leave your readers with a couple of the most important aspects of nutrition that help to get you lean for life...


1. Get enough quality protein in the daily diet - not only does it have a higher thermic effect than carbs and fat (so you burn more calories digesting it), but it also creates satiety so your hunger is satisfied longer. Plus it's a building block for maintaining and building lean muscle... And remember that the amount of lean muscle you carry is one of the main factors for controlling your metabolism.


2. Think fiber! When it comes to carbs, make sure that almost all of your carbohydrate intake is from higher fiber sources like vegetables, fruits, and high fiber unrefined grains. Try to avoid refined sugars and refined grains as that is one of the main reasons so many people struggle with body fat. I personally don't eat many grains as I prefer to get most of my carbs from veggies and fruits, but I do use sprouted grain breads fairly regularly too.


I generally recommend looking for carbohydrate sources that have at least 2-3 grams of fiber per each 10 grams of total carbs. Remember that fiber helps fill you up and also slows down the glycemic response of the foods you eat, all beneficial for getting lean.


3. Don't be afraid to eat fat! Many people try to go way too low on their fat intake and this can negatively affect hormone levels in your body as well as causing more cravings. Try to eat enough healthy fats daily.


Good sources are all nuts and seeds, nut butters, avocados, olive oil, organic meats and eggs, coconuts and virgin coconut oil. On that note, saturated fats from tropical oils are VERY misunderstood, even by many nutritionists and other health professionals. Yes they are composed highly of saturated fats, but are actually beneficial (but that's way beyond the scope of this article).


4. Avoid the two worst things in our food supply at ALL COSTS:


artificial trans fats from margarines, shortening, and hydrogenated oils that are in most processed foods and deep fried foods
high fructose corn syrup, which is in almost all sweetened products on the market
Again, if you avoid processed foods, it becomes easy to avoid these two worst offenders in our food supply.


I always contend that once you get a handle on these 4 main points of your diet detailed above, the rest starts to take care of itself as you gain control over your appetite, blood sugar levels, hormone levels, etc. It all falls into place, and you eventually gain total control over how lean you want to get.

People who have experienced panic attacks often go around with a grave sense of unease that at any moment, they will experience a major panic attack.







It’s a fear of the ultimate panic attack that would finally push them over the edge.


This leads people to make changes to their behavior in order not to do anything that might trigger a panic episode.


When people feel this way, simple daily tasks can become big challenges. Some people start to fear driving their car in traffic. Others fear leaving their safe zone or simply any situation where they have responsibilities to perform.


This state of apprehension keeps a person’s anxiety level high, leading to feelings of general anxiety.


If you are such a person I hope to put your mind at rest. Panic attacks as well as general anxiety (even when not accompanied by panic disorder) can be eliminated in simple steps regardless of how long the anxiety has been a problem.


I am speaking not just from my own personal experience but from having worked with thousands of people right around the world.


Here is an important observation:


The key difference between someone who is cured of panic attacks and those who are not is really very simple. The one who is cured is not afraid of panic attacks. I’ll try to show you how to one of these people as well.


What if I told you the trick to ending panic attacks is to want to have one!


That sounds strange but let me explain.


A simple trick to ending panic attacks is wanting to have one because the wanting causes an immediate diffusion of the anticipatory fear.


Can you have a panic attack in this very second?


No !


You know the saying “what you resist persists.” Well that saying applies perfectly to fear. If you resist a situation out of fear, the fear around that issue will persist.


How do you stop resisting?


You move directly into the path of the anxiety; by doing so it cannot persist because you process the fear out through your emotions.


Try in this very moment to have a panic attack and I will bet you cannot… Yes, I know the idea of calling on a panic attack is scary at first but play with the concept and watch what happens.


You may not realize it but you have always decided to panic. You make the choice by thinking


“This is beyond my control.”


“These scary sensations are beyond my bodies control.”


It may help if you imagine that having a panic attack is like standing on a cliff edge.


The anxiety, it seems, is pushing you closer to falling over the edge. Each time you fight back using poor coping strategies the more desperate you feel.


To be rid of the fear you must metaphorically jump. You must jump off the cliff edge and into the anxiety and fear and all the things that you fear most. How do you jump?


You jump by wanting to have a panic attack. You go about your day asking for a panic attack to appear. Your real safety is the fact that a panic attack will never harm you. That is medical fact.


You are safe, -Yes, the sensations are wild and uncomfortable, but no harm will come to you.


Your body is in a heightened state but no harm will come to you.


The jump becomes nothing more than a two inch drop! You are safe.


You always were.


Think of all the panic attacks you have had to date and come out the other end. Was there any lasting physical damage to you, other than the mounting feeling of panic?


Now you are going to approach this problem differently. You actively seek out the attack like an adventure seeker. Take the opposite approach.

…I prayed to God to show me what to do

CHERATING, 9 Julai (Bernama) -- Pendaratan penyu jenis Agar, antara spesies penyu yang diancam kepupusan, di sekitar kawasan pusat peranginan di sini meningkat setakat Jun tahun ini berbanding sepanjang tahun lepas.






Ketua Pusat Penerangan dan Santuari Penyu Pahang, Abdul Karim Mohd Shah berkata 158 pendaratan direkodkan sehingga Jun tahun ini berbanding 176 pendaratan sepanjang tahun lepas.


Ia dijangka melepasi rekod tahun lepas apabila berakhirnya musim penyu mendarat pada September nanti, katanya.


"Jika jumlah pendaratan terus meningkat,saya percaya haiwan ini tidak lagi berdepan dengan ancaman kepupusan," katanya kepada Bernama di sini, pada Isnin.


Abdul Karim berkata hasil usaha pusat santuari itu dan badan bukan kerajaan (NGO) yang berganding bahu menyelamatkan penyu dari terus pupus wajar disokong oleh semua pihak terutamanya rakyat di negara ini sendiri.

iskandarX Society Rencana - Asma, Penyakit Keradangan Saluran Pernafasan




KUALA LUMPUR, 9 Julai (Bernama) -- Jerebu muncul kembali dan menyelubungi banyak kawasan di seluruh negara dengan membawa udara tercemar yang mempunyai impak kesihatan ke atas rakyat Malaysia.







Bila berada di luar rumah, udara yang dihirup sebenarnya mengandungi partikel tercemar yang boleh membahayakan kesihatan terutama bagi mereka yang menghidap asma.


Apakah itu asma?


Menurut pakar perubatan, asma adalah satu penyakit saluran pernafasan kronik yang mengakibatkan penghidapnya semput selain mengalami rasa 'ketat' di dada, batuk dan lelah.


Bagi penghidap asma, paru-paru mereka akan menebal dan bengkak selain mengalami keradangan. Saluran pernafasan mereka menjadi sensitif kepada perubahan cuaca dan ini boleh menyebabkan berlakunya 'serangan' asma dengan mudah.


RAWATAN


"Terdapat dua jenis rawatan. Sama ada dengan cara melegakan dengan cepat atau rawatan jangka panjang dengan penggunaan ubat pencegahan.


"Pengembang brokus (bronchodilater) adalah ubat yang boleh mengembangkan otot di saluran pernafasan bagi menambahkan kemasukan udara ke dalam paru-paru," jelas Dr Norzila Mohamed Zainudin, Pakar Kanak-Kanak di Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL).


Katanya, asma adalah satu penyakit saluran pernafasan yang biasa dan ia penting bagi mendidik pesakit asma sejak mereka kecil lagi.


Bagi tujuan ini, Majlis Asma Malaysia (ACM) bersama GlaxcoSmithKline Pharmaceutical Sdn Bhd (GSK) telah mengeluarkan sebuah komik mengenai asma.


Ia bertujuan untuk mendidik mengenai asma selari dengan seruan Inisiatif Global Asma (GINA) bagi meningkatkan kesedaran tentang penyakit itu di seluruh dunia.


Vijaya Surendran, Pengurus Produk Kumpulan GSK menyatakan bahawa komik itu bertindak sebagai alat untuk menyalurkan maklumat dan pendidikan bagi pesakit asma yang masih muda.


Pada masa yang sama, ia bagi menyemai budaya membaca di kalangan golongan muda di negara ini. Komik itu terdapat dalam versi Bahasa Inggeris dan Melayu.


UBAT


Menurut laporan Badan Kesihatan Dunia (WHO) terdapat 330 juta pesakit asma di seluruh dunia.


Asma ialah penyakit 'asimptomatik' yang bermakna ia boleh dirawat tetapi tidak akan hilang 100 peratus. Terapi jangka panjang yang disyorkan adalah dalam bentuk steroid melalui penggunaan 'inhaler' (alat penyedut udara).


"Ubat ini diambil sekurang-kurangnya enam bulan dan bergantung kepada serangan asma dan diagnosis doktor. Ubat ada di semua hospital kerajaan secara percuma," kata Dr Norzila.


Ubat bagi asma adalah selamat dan tidak mendatangkan kesan sampingan yang begitu ketara tetapi penggunaannya tidak bererti pesakit bebas daripada serangan asma.


Seorang pesakit kanak-kanak masih boleh mendapat serangan asma semasa jangkitan virus serta situasi jerebu.


Tetapi jika asma dikawal secara konsisten, serangan yang datang adalah tidak teruk sangat. Simptom asma adalah berbeza dari masa ke semasa tetapi biasanya ia akan datang dengan teruk pada waktu malam dan awal pagi.


"Kesan serangan asma juga berbeza di mana 69 peratus daripada kanak-kanak yang bersekolah tidak dapat hadir ke sekolah selama satu atau dua hari setiap tahun disebabkan serangan asma," katanya.


MAKANAN


Ramai pesakit asma seboleh-bolehnya cuba mengelak daripada mengambil makanan yang dikatakan boleh mencetus serangan asma.


Adakah benar buah-buahan seperti tembikai boleh mencetuskan serangan asma?


"Tiada bukti tentangnya. Ada yang mengalami gatal tekak setelah makan rambutan atau oren. Ais juga boleh menyebabkan batuk," jelas Dr Norzila sambil menambah bahawa terdapat bahan kimia dalam makanan yang diproses yang boleh mencetuskan serangan asma.


"Bagaimanapun saya percaya faktor cuaca serta partikel udara tercemar selain daripada asap rokok boleh menyebabkan berlakunya serangan asma," kata beliau.


STATISTIK


Statistik tahun 2006 menunjukkan bahawa tujuh hingga lapan peratus daripada kanak-kanak di Malaysia menghidap asma di mana satu peratus adalah menghidap asma yang serius.


Bila ditanya tentang perkembangan enam tahun selepas kajian terhadap prevalens penyakit ini di Malaysia, Dr Norliza menjelaskan bahawa jumlah pesakit kanak-kanak adalah agak stabil.


"Dua pertiga daripada pesakit kanak-kanak ini akan pulih daripada masalah ini jika rawatan diberikan secara berterusan," kata beliau.


Prevalens di kalangan orang dewasa pula adalah sebanyak satu peratus.


Asma menyerang semua orang tidak kira bangsa atau lapisan masyarakat dan umur. Tanpa maklumat yang tepat serta persepsi yang salah akan menyebabkan pengurusan yang tidak betul bagi mengendalikan penyakit ini.

"Kini mereka semakin yakin bahawa berniaga sendiri adalah lebih baik daripada bekerja di sektor kerajaan dan swasta khususnya makan gaji," katanya kepada pemberita selepas majlis Perjumpaan Usahawan TEKUN Parlimen Sungai Petani di Tikam Batu dekat sini.


Beliau berkata Skim Program Pembangunan Siswazah di bawah TEKUN berjaya menarik lebih ramai siswazah kerana mereka lazimnya tidak mempunyai modal untuk memulakan perniagaan.


"Polisi pinjaman TEKUN berbeza dengan perbankan komersial dan lazimnya kalangan siswazah yang baru keluar daripada institusi pengajian tinggi kesuntukan modal dan TEKUN memang menjadi pelengkap kepada mereka yang benar-benar bercita-cita menjadi usahawan," katanya.

ALOR SETAR, 9 Julai (Bernama) -- Persatuan Bencana Alam Negeri Kedah (PBANK) memperuntukkan kira-kira RM150,000 bagi menyediakan keperluan menyambut Ramadan dan Aidilfitri kepada 500 keluarga kurang berkemampuan di 10 daerah di Kedah.






Naib Yang Dipertua persatuan, Syed Shaharudi Syed Abdullah berkata program tahunan itu bertujuan membantu golongan tersebut menyambut Ramadan dan Aidilfitri dengan lebih sempurna.


"Ini adalah usaha PBANK untuk membantu rakyat Kedah," katanya kepada pemberita selepas penyampaian tersebut yang disempurna Pengerusi Jemaah Pemangku Sultan Kedah Tan Sri Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah, yang juga Yang Dipertua PBANK, di sini pada Ahad.


Pada majlis itu, PBANK memberi barangan keperluan harian termasuk beras, sejadah, kain pelekat, kain batik dan wang tunai. PBANK turut menyerahkan kunci rumah kepada dua keluarga miskin dari daerah Sik dan Baling.


"Kita pilih dua daerah yang agak mundur di Kedah dan meminta pegawai daerah mencari keluraga yang miskin dan hidup dalam kedaifan bagi membantu mereka memiliki rumah yang lebih sempurna," Syed Shaharudi.

KUALA LUMPUR, 9 Julai (Bernama) -- Timbalan Pengerusi Tetap Dewan Muslimat PAS Kelantan Khairiah Mohamed hari ini mengangkat sumpah sebagai Senator di hadapan Yang Dipertua Dewan Negara Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang.



Khairiah, 38, yang juga Ketua Bahagian Khidmat Nasihat Perundangan Majlis Perbandaran Kota Bharu, merupakan lulusan Ijazah Sarjana Muda Undang-Undang dari Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia.


Pelantikan Khairiah diusul Menteri Besar Kelantan Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat pada persidangan Dewan Undangan Negeri Kelantan baru-baru ini bagi menggantikan Mumtaz Mohd Nawi yang tamat tempoh perkhidmatan.


Dalam ucapannya pada majlis itu di Dewan Negara di sini, Abu Zahar mengingatkan anggota Dewan Negara supaya berusaha memahami, menghayati, mempertahankan dan mendukung Perlembagaan Persekutuan.


Beliau juga menasihati mereka supaya tidak beremosi dan tidak sesekali melanggar serta mengingkari sumpah setia yang telah dilafaz demi kepentingan rakyat.

GEORGE TOWN, 9 Julai (Bernama) -- Seorang pembantu rumah warga India ditemui mati dalam keadaan tergantung di kipas siling rumah majikannya di Lengkok Pemancar Gelugor di sini, Ahad malam.



Ketua Polis Daerah Timur Laut, ACP Gan Kong Meng berkata dalam kejadian pukul 11 malam itu, majikan wanita terbabit berada di Kuala Lumpur.


"Difahamkan dokumen pengenalan diri mangsa berusia 40-an itu berada pada majikannya dan siasatan awal mendapati tiada unsur jenayah," katanya kepada pemberita di sini, Isnin.


Gan berkata ia adalah kes kedua seumpama itu melibatkan pembantu rumah warga India di daerah ini.


Katanya polis mengklasifikasikan kes itu sebagai kematian mengejut, dan mayat wanita terbabit dihantar ke Jabatan Forensik Hospital Pulau Pinang untuk bedah siasat.

Aisha, 23, yang mendendangkan dua buah lagu iaitu 'Kisah Hati' dan 'Fantasia' membawa pulang sebuah kereta Cherry Tiggo, wang tunai RM20,000 selain trofi, sijil penghargaan dan hadiah iringan yang disampaikan Menteri Penerangan Komunikasi dan Kebudayaan Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.

BANGKOK, 9 Julai (Bernama) -- Lima belas kenderaan curi dari Malaysia yang diseludup masuk ke negara ini pada Januari lepas, dikembalikan kepada polis Malaysia di sini.



Timbalan Ketua Polis Negara Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar menerima 14 Toyota Hilux dan sebuah Toyota Fortuner daripada wakil pihak berkuasa Thai di ibu pejabat Kastam Thailand di sini.


Polis Thai dengan kerjasama Kastam Thai yang bertindak atas maklumat yang diterima daripada polis Malaysia, merampas kenderaan curi itu yang dibawa masuk dengan kapal di Pelabuhan Bangkok di Klongtoey dan Pelabuhan Chabang di Chonburi, Januari lepas.


Kesemua 15 kenderaan itu dilaporkan dicuri di Selangor dan Pahang.


Ketua Pengarah Kastam Thailand yang diwakili Pengarah Kastam Pelabuhan Bangkok Vichak Apirugnunchai, Pengarah Kastam Pelabuhan Leam Chabang Paisal Chuen Jit dan wakil polis Thai menyerahkan kenderaan itu kepada Khalid pada majlis itu.


Timbalan Ketua Perwakilan Kedutaan Malaysia di Thailand Tajul Aman Mohamad turut hadir dalam majlis berkenaan.


Khalid turut menonton perlawanan ragbi antara pasukan polis dari kedua-dua negara yang diadakan di Stadium Tentera Laut Diraja Thai, Sattahip di Chonburi, semalam.Sabtu.

KUANTAN, 8 Julai (Bernama) -- Selangor terus mendahului kontinjen lain dalam kutipan pingat pada hari kelapan temasya Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA) ke-15 setelah berjaya mengumpul 10 pingat emas, lapan perak dan 10 gangsa.






Sarawak kekal menduduki tangga kedua kutipan keseluruhan pingat dengan tujuh emas, tiga perak dan tujuh gangsa.


Pulau Pinang di tangga ketiga dengan mengumpul enam pingat emas dan empat pingat gangsa.


Selangor berjaya mengutip tiga daripada 10 pingat emas yang ditawarkan dalam sukan akuatik hari ini menerusi acara 50m kuak lentang wanita, 200m gaya bebas lelaki dan acara 3m papan anjal lelaki.


Bagi acara gimnastik yang bermula hari ini, pingat emas bagi kategori lelaki berpasukan menjadi milik pasukan Pulau Pinang dengan kutipan mata keseluruhan 305,45 mata, pingat perak milik Selangor dengan kutipan 298.65 mata dan gangsa pula menjadi milik Terengganu dengan kutipan 290.60 mata.


Pada Isnin, acara bagi sukan menembak, angkat berat, silat dan tenpin boling membuka tirai bagi rebutan pingat.

KUANTAN, 8 Julai (Bernama) -- Sebanyak tiga rekod temasya Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA) ke-15, Pahang lebur sebaik acara akuatik membuka tirainya di Kompleks Akuatik Wisma Belia, Indera Mahkota, di sini, Ahad.






Perenang Selangor, Caroline Chan membuat kejutan apabila berjaya memecah rekod kebangsaan dengan catatan masa terbaiknya 30.34s bagi acara 50m kuak lentang wanita. Beliau berjaya memadam rekod milik Chui Lai Kwan iaitu 30.39s.


Caroline mengatasi dua perenang dari Wilayah Persekutuan, Chan Kah Yan yang mencipta masa 30.35s dan Tan Rou Ying dengan masa 31.89s.


"Saya telah membuat persediaan sejak dua tahun lepas, memang saya sasar untuk dapat pingat emas hari ini," katanya kepada pemberita selepas majlis penyampaian pingat.


Sementara itu, dua perenang yang berjaya memecah rekod kebangsaan adalah atlet elit negara Christina Loh dan Ian James Barr, masing-masing dalam acara 100m kuak dada wanita dan 50m kuak lentang lelaki.


Christina mewakili Wilayah Persekutuan mencipta rekod apabila mencatat masa 1 minit 12.41 saat berbeza dengan catatan masa sebelum ini iaitu 1:12.45s yang dicipta oleh Erika Kong.


Christina telah menewaskan dua perenang dari Selangor, Phee Jing En dengan catatan masa 1:14.99s manakala tempat ketiga milik Nadia Adrianna Redza, dengan catatan masa 1:15.26s


Perenang elit negara, Ian mencipta rekod dengan catatan masa 26.86s iaitu memecah rekod peribadinya, 27.08s sebelum ini.


Ian yang mewakili Wilayah Persekutuan telah mengatasi perenang dari Sabah, Randall Pan Vui dengan catatan masa 27.85s manakala tempat ketiga menjadi milik perenang Wilayah Persekutuan Andrew Loh Weng dengan catatan masa 28.23s.

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 Julai (Bernama) -- Kemunculan media baru seperti laman sosial Facebook, Twitter dan blog jika tidak terkawal dan disalah guna, boleh menyebabkan pergaulan di kalangan masyarakat semakin terhad, kata Timbalan Ketua Setiausaha (Komunikasi) Kementerian Penerangan Komunikasi dan Kebudayaan Che Azemi Haron.






Beliau berkata masyarakat kini juga lebih terkongkong dengan media baru sehingga kadangkala menyebabkan pengguna, terutama golongan muda, mudah terpengaruh dengan penulisan yang diolahnya.


"Kadangkala olahan mereka itu menarik, walaupun fakta tidak betul tapi dengan penonjolan bukti yang direka, ia nampak macam betul, jadi kita nak generasi muda hindarkan perkara ini," katanya kepada pemberita selepas menutup program 'Jom Generasi Y!: Stand As One' anjuran Jabatan Hal Ehwal Khas (Jasa) di sini.


Azemi juga berkata penggunaan media baru secara betul akan memberi banyak manfaat kepada pengguna kerana membolehkan orang ramai bertukar pandangan selain menghimpunkan lebih ramai kenalan.


"Jadi, janganlah gunakan Facebook, Twitter dan sebagainya untuk menghentam individu lain kerana ia tak membawa manfaat," katanya.

PETALING JAYA, 8 Julai (Bernama) -- Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak tidak perlu berdebat dengan Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim berikutan Najib telahpun membuktikan kepimpinannya melalui program transformasi yang membuahkan hasil, kata Presiden MCA Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.







Beliau berkata rakyat dapat menilai pelbagai langkah yang dilaksanakan oleh Barisan Nasional (BN) di bawah kepimpinan Najib sejak mengambil alih pucuk pimpinan negara, tiga tahun lalu.


Katanya Penasihat Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) itu seharusnya berdebat dengan orang lain berikutan apa yang dilakukan oleh pakatan pembangkang sehingga hari ini penuh dengan retorik.


"Kita tidak menggalakkan Datuk Seri Najib berdebat dengan Anwar kerana beliau adalah Perdana Menteri dan sejak mengambil alih pucuk pimpinan negara tiga tahun dahulu, beliau telah membuktikan melalui program transformasi. Kita telah melihat dengan jelas hasil-hasil transformasi.


"Daya saing negara telah meningkat daripada tangga ke-28 kepada ke-21, kemudahan menjalankan perniagaan daripada tangga ke-23 kepada 18, dan kita telah diiktiraf negara kelima menjadi pilihan Negara FDI di Asia dan kita tepati segala janji, dan bukan janji-janji kosong seperti pakatan rakyat," katanya pada debat kedua antara beliau dan Setiausaha Agung DAP Lim Guan Eng, di sini.


Debat bertajuk 'DAP & MCA: Whose Policies Benefit the Community Better?' (DAP & MCA: Dasar Siapa Yang Lebih Bermanfaat Kepada Masyarakat), dianjurkan oleh Institut Strategi dan Kepimpinan Asia (Asli).


Debat itu berlangsung selama dua jam dan Pengarah dan Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Asli Tan Sri Michael Yeoh bertindak sebagai moderator.


Terdahulu, Lim, dalam ucapan pembukaan, berkata satu perbahasan patut diadakan antara Najib dan Anwar dan mendakwa keengganan Perdana Menteri untuk berbahas berikutan bimbang rakyat akan membuat penilaian terhadap kedua-dua pemimpin itu selepas perbahasan tersebut.


Dr Chua berkata langkah yang perlu Anwar lakukan adalah untuk menterjemahkan retorik kepada apa yang disebut sebagai penyampaian.


Beliau berkata MCA telahpun terlibat dalam pembinaan negara sejak dari mula lagi, apabila anggota parti itu turut serta dalam perjuangan menentang komunis semasa pemberontakan, perjuangan menuntut kemerdekaan dan hak mendapat kewarganegaraan selepas negara merdeka.


Mengenai Dasar Ekonomi Baru (DEB), Dr Chua berkata tidak dinafikan bahawa Malaysia berjaya menghasilkan kualiti di negara ini.


Dari segi penstrukturan semula masyarakat, beliau berkata negara telahpun mencapai kejayaan tertentu memandangkan tiada kaum bukan Melayu yang berani mengatakan bahawa mereka tidak memperoleh manfaat daripada DEB.


Beliau berkata rakyat Malaysia seharusnya menerima program transformasi Najib kerana ia akan memberi negara harapan kepada masa depan yang lebih baik.
